hey guys r we going to submit our team website?? i beieve everyone did what htey were suppose to?? Great job! :)
Girls,
I think everything looks really good! I couldn't figure out how to change the order of the menu :(
Other than that, I think we are good to go! :)

Saturday, June 26, 2010

Uh oh! We actually can't have a resources page says the assignment in mod 6/7...so I guess we will just have to keep having the links on the different pages. Hope that's okay.
Hey girls,

I think the resources page is all right, as long as some of the links go on pages. For example, for most of my links I was able to find a page for them to relate to.

I uploaded my podcast to google docs, and then linked it that way. I can check yours out too if you would like me too.

As for my part of the site, I think I am mostly done. Let me know if anything looks like I need to change it.

For the pictures, I've just been adding the picture and then putting a link underneath it that says "picture source" or something like that.
Hey girls,
I am leaving soon for the day, and I have most of what I think needed to be done, done. I still am having trouble figuring out how to format my links ( if one of you can do it..or give me directions that would be great!) also, I have my podcast uploaded to google doc's but I can't figure out how to add it.. HELP! thanks ladies..

Friday, June 25, 2010

Also,

I know we are supposed to add our 3 websites that we evaluated for that one assignment and we are all supposed to add 3 additional websites each. Would you girls mind if I added a page called 'Additional resources', just so all of our pages don't have a bunch of links that don't really fit in?

Let me know what you think, if its okay with you I will add the page in the AM.
I am going out of town for the day tomorrow, so I plan on waking up early and just getting this stuff done! :)

We are almost to the end! :)
Hey ladies.
I just added a powerpoint, and I plan on making another lesson plan.

I still can't figure out how to upload my podcast or change my links.
Also, when we add pictures...where and how do we site them.

The things I have left to do are..
-1 more new item (lesson)
-Adding pictures to my 2 pages
- and adding my podcast

Is there anything else you girls can think of that I need to do.. I keep looking at the instructions and I think thats it..

Have a good night ladies!
Yes.. how do you upload the podcast? I am confused!
how did you get the podcast link in there? I can't figure it out!

Thursday, June 24, 2010

hey ladies!

i have been formatting the links, hope that's okay. we're just not supposed to have URLs be the title of the links.

also, don't forget to put your name and our group email address at the bottom of each page.

i've been writing something like:

This page was created primarily by Amy Young. Contact group4recycling@gmail.com with questions.

it's simple, but works! the site is looking really good!!
I'm thinking of adding a page about resources in the Kalamazoo area for students (regarding recycling, obviously :) ).. and then i think I will make a PowerPoint presentation and maybe a lesson plan for my 2 extra things. I hope this is alright with you guys
Hi girls!! hey is our concept map the final product.. bc if it is then i can upload it to our website.. and we also need to upload i guess the google maps thing.. i can try today to try to upload it.. i am going to put it in a new page.. i am a little confussed about this though :"Each web page needs to contain one or two new items of information not given throughout the semester -- ideas, lesson plans, etc. for your topic. All items of information must have a short description of what they are." i dont know what we are supposed to do. i am also cofussed about this: "Each group member needs to create one original item -- such as a lesson plan, a podcast, an instructional PowerPoint, etc. (Word searches and crossword puzzles do NOT count!). Each original item needs a short description of what it is."

Hope to talk to u girs later!!

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

Hey girls,
I was going to do the section on 'what is recycling' and the section on what materials can be recycled.. but it looks like someone already did the one section.. what should I do for another section?

Monday, June 21, 2010

oh and i was looking at the guidlines on what we needed and it said tht we need to have something different that was not in the lesson plans so i created a word search..i just dont know how to edit what u have already created.. i cant find the edit button...im srry??
hello.. i can do what happens to materials that are recycled..i just dont know how to edit the material.i found wehre to go to see what you have done amy and i want to the section on what happens to recycled material..but i dont know where the edit button is.. im srry..what else can be done?? u r doing such a great job by the way!!:)
I began to add some of my assignments to the website. What section do you think my lesson plan about school wide recycling data collection should go under?
I already posted this as a comment, but thought it'd be easier read on a new post

Okay, so Rachel will do the page on "What Can You Recycle" (as per request in a previous post comment).

I would like to do: "Why is recycling important" and "Creating a digital book using powerpoint" because we can't forget to include that part on our project! lol

So we still need covered: "What is recycling" "What happens to the materials you recycle" and then one more for whomever doesn't take one or both of those options.

Also, I think we should just upload the stuff to the pages if we did lesson plans or movies about the topic...just so everything is where it needs to be. For example, even though I'm doing the "Why is recycling important" page, if you did a lesson or something that has to do with it, just upload it to the page even though I'm "in charge" of that page. Is that okay?

Friday, June 18, 2010

i've started the website (slow day at work).

When you want to add to the website, enter our login information into gmail.

Then, click "sites" and you should find out site, entitled "Elementary Recycling."
hey ladies,

I don't want to be "that person," but I would really like to start working on the website. I know we have until next sunday, but won't it be better just to have it done? I will set it up later today if I don't hear from you guys, I don't think it will be a big deal.

What kinds of things do you think we should put on the website? Is there any topic that you guys really want to cover? I think we need to talk about:

-What recycling is
-Why recycling is important
-What can you recycle
-What happens to materials you recycle
-How to create the digital books using Powerpoint (or other software)
-The various lesson plans, links, assignments, etc. that we had to do

Am I missing anything? Let me know what you guys think. Thanks.

Mod 6/7

Hey girls!

This week looks like it's going to have a lot of work. I didn't know we didn't need to update the concept map last week, but I did it anyway. We should probably add more to it though, so whomever wants it just let me know and I'll send you the file.

As for everything else, we need to set up the group gmail/website stuff. I probably shouldn't set it up, just because she really emphasized the "team" aspect of this part of the project and I want to make sure we all get the points. So whomever wants to set it up that's fine, we just need to start working on it.

I have a pretty open week ahead of me. I think everything is due in two weeks, but we might be able to get it done early!!

Sunday, June 13, 2010

who is going to update the concept map that I created earlier? I can do it if you guys want, not a big deal. Just let me know.

Friday, June 11, 2010

Oh.. And PS..

Its a lot harder to record a longer thing such as this podcast successfully... I am having difficulties. I have tried to do it a million times, never sounds right.. I think I am going to take a break from trying for now lol.
Ok, here is my part to the Podcast.. I also made a Google Doc to save some room. I feel like mine is a little long, but I had a lot to say.

https://docs.google.com/document/edit?id=1qSD9grpkgtYAnw_PFoTi3zowLfmY3h48EPmwpPm5YgQ&hl=en

Now, am I right in assuming that we all record/submit these separately?

Thursday, June 10, 2010

hey guys..everything sounds great..srry i have not been on i have been so busy with everything and to be honest with you confussed with these last assignments.. i am kinda stuck on what to do for my lesson plan.i was thinking about maybe having the students go around the school and go in each class and have them sort out the materials that have been recycled and make a tally sheet on what the common recyled material is..or have them see if everything is recycled in the right place.. like if they see that plastic is in the paper recyling then they can sort it and put it in the right place.. i dont believe that this is the same as any of yours.. let me know what you think.. thanks..
hey guys,

in order to save some space on the blog, i created a Google Doc to house my part of the podcast.

here is the link. let me know if you think i should change anything!

http://docs.google.com/View?id=dfk8w8kh_1dcgnbwf8

-Amy
Glad you're okay with everything. Thanks so much for understanding about the lesson plans!

I think it'd be a good idea to post exactly what we're saying on here, that way we can make sure we have good transitions with each other.

I'll hopefully have mine mostly done today, so I will post it asap!

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Amy,
I'm totally fine with the topics you gave me to talk about!
And.. I can do my lesson plan on what kinds of materials their school recycles.. is that what you mean?.. I'll get working on this stuff tomorrow (early evening) after I get out of work! :)

Are we going to post exactly what we are saying in the pod cast on here as well?

Have a good night ladies!
Hey,

This is what I came up with so far for the podcast, just some ideas!

Possible Topic Assignments:

-what recycling is (Amy)(Just to open up the podcast)
- how is recycling good for our environment (Amy) (Just because this is what I did my other assignment on)
-what things can be recycled (Rachel)(she did her assignment on this)
-recycling in the Kalamazoo community (Rachel)
-what you can do to help recycling referring to how the teacher or parent can help educate on recycling (Bailey)
-conclusion/wrap up (Bailey)

You must include at least two concepts from the textbook - these are some ideas I came up with, feel free to use these or choose your own

- Asking deeper inquiry questions (I would like to use this one)
- Use of collaborative blog
- Use of Google Doc
- Essential Learning Functions ( i would like to use this one as well
- Using a Wiki
- Use of Google Map
- Levels of classroom discussion

Let me know what you guys think. I won't take any offense if you say you don't want to cover that topic/don't like my ideas. Just trying to get things moving a little bit!

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

or, rachel, if you want, i could change mine to be by weight instead of number of items. just let me know what you want to do, i'm sure we can figure it out :) :)
hey rachel --

your idea sounds a lot like mine...maybe instead of having yours done in the home, you could do it in the school or classroom? that way they are the same idea, just different places. i just already have mine started and i would hate to go back and do it all again...let me know what you think!

thanks,

amy
Also,
I thought that the map did not need to be added until the next module?
Or.. am I wrong.. haha
Let me know if Im just looking in the wrong spot!
Hey girls,

I think that sounds good. Maybe we could all talk about what we have done our part of the assignments on (like: I did mine on What we can recycle) and then we can just divide up the rest. Do you understand what we are supposed to do with the concepts from the book? And do we all need 2? or just 2 for the whole group? I was thinking about doing my lesson plan on collecting data on what types of materials the class recycles (having students tally up at home what they are recycling, and then keeping data on that)... does that sound like it would work?

I am going to be busy ALLLL day tomorrow unfortunately.. so if I do not respond to posts it is because I am in class from 8-12 and then I am meeting with my mentor teacher from 12-2:30 and then work 3-11..so, I will be on here Thursday to do, whatever needs to be done :).. feel free to split up work, just let me know what you would like me to do :)

Rachel
hey bailey,

I think you have some really good ideas about what our podcast should cover. Do you want us all to just pick a couple things to talk about? I don't care what I talk about, so if you wanted to like assign us stuff that'd be all right with me.

Also, someone needs to add to the concept map. I can send whomever the file for it so that they can work on it. Or, if they just wanted to re-create the concept map I made, it only took like 5 minuts. I think my 30-day trial is still good, though.

For my lesson plan, I'm planning on doing it on "How much do you recycle at home?" and having the students keep track of how much their family recycles, and then having a class chart as well.

Let me know what you guys think! I will be way busy Friday-Sunday, so let's try to figure this out by then :)
hey have you guys looked at the next assignment.. we should all start thinking about how we want it set up.. who is doing what and what we are saying.. just something to think about.. i think that there should be section on : what recycling is, what you can do to help recycling referring to how the teacher or parent can help educate on recycling, what things can be recycled, how is recycling good for our environment... if you guys can think of more feel free to post them.. but this is what i am thinking so far with this project.. let me know what you think..

Sunday, June 6, 2010

Also I'm not sure if the link works that was posted below...I can't get it to link, at least.

http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0ARy4XmiHjtZxZGZrOHc4a2hfMGhmd2MyeGMz&hl=en

Was the link I got. But the assignment says something about how we need to publish it to our blog. I'm not sure what that means, but I've tried doing the Share, Publish to blog, thing a couple times and it doesn't appear to be doing anything.

Any suggestions??

The Map

Hey Girls,

I think our map needed to be embedded with a description. So I am doing it now...it might already be fine the way it is I just wanted to make sure.

Movie

I was going to do my movie on 'What we can recycle'...just because it goes along with my previous lesson plan. I hope that is alright. Let me know! :)
Bailey,
What are you doing your story on? I know Amy said she was doing hers on why recycling is important. I just dont want to do the same thing as you!
:)
http://docs.google.com/View?id=dfk8w8kh_0hfwc2xc3">

this is the link to our google doc.. :)
Our students will contact 3rd grade students at the American International School in Cairo, Egypt through ePals to talk about the differences and similarities between the way people in Africa recycle and the way people recycle in the United States. During project work time, our students can use blog, wikis, or video conference to talk about recycling. The useful information would give them a global view about how other countries recycle. This source would be helpful because the students in the American International School would speak the same language as our students.

The types of questions they might ask are:
1. Do you recycle?
2. Do you have recycling centers near you?
3. Do you have mandated recycling?
4. What can you recycle?
5. Are you taught about recycling at school?
6. Do you think it is important to recycle?

The students will use the information they find and put it in their final project in the digital books. This research will help them think more globally about their projects. It will be interesting for them to learn about other students, especially in a different country. Showing them the Google map we have created will let them see how far away these other students really are.

i thought that the map and google doc was great..do we all need to add the map and google doc to the blog or just one person from our group??

I hope its okay that I posted the map. From what you girls said, it sounded like it was done. If not, feel free to delete it & repost. :)

Ok, the google doc is posted below! That wasn't to hard actually. And, I am happy to post the map as well, is that complete?

here are the directions for the map:

Once the map is complete, click on "Link" in the top right hand corner about the map. You will need to copy the URL under "Paste HTML to embed in web site" and paste it into a post on your blog. Be sure to add an explanation of the map.

Also, I went in and invited you to the doc again, just so you can try to add those questions, Rachel.
I tried to go into the google doc to add a few questions to ask the students, and it says I can not do that. Any ideas?
Also,
I looked at the map. To post that on here, do we just need to add the link? Or actually have the whole picture showing up on here?

Rachel

Good Work

Girls,
Everything looks excellent. Is there anything I need to do? I looked at the doc, and am unsure of how to actually post it on here, so I am not sure if the copy/paste thing is alright. I am quite confused with this course in general :p
the map wouldn't let me add rachel because I'm not the owner of it. Bailey, her email is: r5wendland@gmail.com
Hey bailey,

I did some editing on the map, and I will invite Rachel to it. I have her email from the blog set up.

As for publishing, I can take a look at that too just to check out what we're supposed to do. Thanks for finishing it up!
Ok so amy i have sen you an invite to google maps.. but rachel i dont have your email so i did not sent the data to you.. but if you write your email either me or amy will add you.. so i found out how to invite people, but now i dont know what to do.. so if any of you want to try playing with go for it.. i have and am confused.. let me know what you find..
i dont believe that i published our work correctly and i dont want us to get marked down.. so if you know how to publish it go for it.. like i said i just copied and pasted it.. so i dont know if everyone can see our work or if we just can.. sorry :(.. i try to follow our teachers directions but for some reason can never find what i am looking for lol..
hi guys.. i thought that our work was ready to be published.. i did not know how to publish from google doc so i just copied and pasted it in our blog.. is that ok..??

hey rachel,

don't worry about it, i figured you were probably on vaca or something! the stuff still needs work, like adding to the description in google docs. also, the map is kind of hard to figure out. we're working on it, but maybe you can take a look at it and see if you know what to do with it! we're a bit lost lol.

Sorry, girls!!

Hey girls.
I'm sooo sorry I have been MIA this week. I was on vaca and forgot to take my computer. It looks like you guys did the google maps/doc things? is there anything left to do for those? If so, please let me know and I will do it first thing tomorrow!! For the next mod, I will do whatever the large contribution is, seeing how, you both have clearly done your part! :)

Sorry again, if there is anything that you need done, let me know!

Rachel
I'll take a look at it Bailey and see what's up.

I think Egypt is fine, we should probs pick a city. If you want, I can look that up, and even try to find a specific school that we could use for our project.

I'll check out the map thing too. Thanks for starting the Google Doc write up :)

PLEASE HELP.GOOGLE MAP

Alright..i have started the google doc questions and have already posted them on the google doc.. if you could please read them that would be great!! to get there just click on the website that amy has posted and my writing shoud pop up.. i am however really confused on how what and how we are supposed to do the google maps thing..i already tried setting it up but got lost and cofussed.. i thought that for our country in Africa we could do Egypt, i dont know now if we are supposed to pick a city?? i have am really confused on why we need to do the google map?? PLEASE HELP, or if you know how to set it up can you please do it?? thanks

hey!

Africa sounds cool. Fine by me! Do you want to set up the Google Doc (Bailey) just so its ready to go when we need it?

modle 4 project

hey guys..yea that sounds great!! do you guys wanna do Africa?? i don't care..but yea i would like to get this done a little before the weekend bc mine are crazy too..For my digital story i am going to do what you can recycle and what happens when you recycle them..

Mod 4 - update

Hey guys,

For the Mod 4 assignment, here is my idea:

- Students in our classrooms will reach out to students in a different country to talk about their recycling habits/how their area handles recycling.

Who are the students your students will communicate with (specific location, grade level)?

I think we've been talking about 3rd grade as our grade level, and I don't care which country we pick or anything like that if we go with this idea.

When would your students contact these other students (at what point in their project work)?

They would contact these students during the research time in their project work. It could be used as another source for them in their research.

What kinds of questions would they ask each other and what kinds of information would they share?

Questions may include: 1) Do you recycle? 2) Do you have recycling centers? 3) Do you have mandated recycling? 4) What can you recycle?

What will they do with the information they get from the other students?

They will use the information in their final project, in their digital books. The research will help them learn about global recycling responsibilities.

Let me know what you all think. I don't mean to be controlling or anything, these are just ideas. Also, I don't want to seem like an overachiever and set everything up, so I haven't set up the Google doc or anything. I would like to start working on it though, weekends are way to busy for me to work on this stuff.

Wednesday, June 2, 2010

yeah that is what it says. i guess i'm confused because one of our grades i believe says "epals" so i thought we just had to do that. i mean, i have no idea what else we would do...do you guys have any ideas? we just need some sort of assignment about this.

we could have them like research other countries recycling stuff or something like that...something global...?
i believe we first need to decide what type of assignment you would do with your class (that directly relates to your Project-based Learning topic) to demonstrate cultural understanding and global awareness..and then go from there?? i am a little confused.. i am going to re read it over and try to understand it.. hopefully you guys understand it

Mod 4 Digital story

Also,

I am going to do my digital story on "Why Recycling is Important." I think I will make it nonfiction so the students can really see why they need to recycle.

Module Four

Hey guys,

For some reason my whole post just got deleted...

Basically it said: How do we want to split up the group work for Module Four? Two things need to be set up: a google doc and a map.

Also, for the "pen pals" project, I think it might be cool to do something where the students learn about different states recycling. We could have them connect with a classroom in a different state to learn about the simliarities and differences of their recycling. What do you guys think?
